How to read an under-the-radar signing
The framework below is what we use to evaluate an under-the-radar signing before locking it into a lineup.
- Role signal: is the role locked, contested or speculative? Locked roles are the safest picks.
- Matchup fit: does the player's skill set match the venue profile and the opposition bowling type?
- Salary-cap price: is the player's price tag appropriate for the expected allocation?
- Ownership expectation: where will the player's ownership settle once the role is confirmed?
- Captaincy upside: does the player have a credible captaincy case in the contests you enter?
Captaincy implications
Under-the-radar signings are usually captaincy picks in large-field GPPs, where the upside is rewarded and the ownership gap works in your favour. In cash contests, captain a consensus player with a stable role. The differential mindset is a layer on top of the captaincy framework, not a replacement for it.
