Publisher and package name
The first verification step is the publisher name. Open the app's store listing and read the publisher line. The publisher should match the operator's official company name; any variation is a red flag. The package name (for Android) should match the operator's documented package; a variation is also a red flag.
Store listing checks
The store listing should be the operator's own listing, not a third-party listing. Open the listing directly from the operator's official website, not from a search result. Search results are commonly gamed by phishing apps that imitate the brand name and icon.
Version, date and update cadence
Read the version number, the last updated date and the download count. A version number that has not changed in over a year is a soft signal that the app is no longer maintained. A download count that is dramatically lower than the operator's user base is a red flag that you may be on a fake listing.
Permissions
Fantasy-cricket apps require a small set of permissions: internet access, storage for cached data and notifications. They should not require camera, microphone, contacts or SMS access unless the operator has a documented need. An app that requests unusual permissions is a soft red flag; verify with the operator's official support channel before installing.

APK sideloading risks
APK files installed outside an app store carry the same risks as any sideloaded app: no automatic security review, no automatic updates and a higher chance of running modified code. If the operator distributes an APK, verify the publisher name, the file size and the SHA-256 checksum against the operator's official download page before installing.
Phishing and fake apps
Phishing apps imitate the brand name and icon, but they usually differ on the publisher name, the package name and the permissions. Verify all three before installing. If the operator has a customer-care channel, you can also send a quick message asking whether the listing is legitimate; most operators respond within a day.
